Read the sermon text: 2 Timothy 1:1-7
Read the sermon summary: As we begin a series through the letter of 2 Timothy, we see that one main aim that Paul has is to encourage Timothy to be faithful in his ministry despite the opposition he faces. In this introductory sermon we will see Paul’s affection for Timothy, which set the tone for the letter. Paul is winding down his ministry and he wants to strengthen his son in the faith to persevere in his ministry. In this first seven verses, we see Paul motivating Timothy to fan into flame the gift of God for faithful ministry. In preparation for the sermon, consider the following questions: What words or ideas do you see repeated in these verses? What is the significance of Paul mentioning his ancestors? In what ways does Paul encourage Timothy in his ministry?
