Read the sermon text: Matthew 6:1-18
Read the sermon summary: This Sunday we will continue our series through the Sermon on the Mount from the Gospel of Matthew. Last Sunday we considered the righteousness of the kingdom of God. We saw the high standard of righteousness that is required for entrance into the kingdom of heaven and that Jesus came to fulfill the Law and Prophets. Jesus meets the standard for us and then enables us by the Holy Spirit to begin walking in this righteousness. This Sunday, we will continue thinking about the righteousness of the kingdom of God, specifically how to practice our righteousness in everyday life. We'll be led to consider, "In what ways do I practice my righteousness in order to be seen by others, rather than serving an audience of One.
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
Before The Throne Of God
Verse 1
Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea
A great High Priest whose name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me
Verse 2
My name is graven on His hands
My name is written on His heart
I know that while in heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
Verse 3
When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin
Verse 4
Because the sinless Saviour died
My sinful soul is counted free
For God the Just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
Verse 5
Behold Him there the risen Lamb
My perfect spotless Righteousness
The great unchangeable I AM
The King of glory and of grace
Verse 6
One with Himself I cannot die
My soul is purchased by His blood
My life is hid with Christ on high
With Christ my Saviour and my God
