Read the sermon text: Luke 2:1-21

Read the sermon summary: In Luke 2:10-13, we see the birth announcement of Jesus. However, notice that this birth announcement is quite different from the ones we might receive in the mail from family or friends. Rather than cuddled up in a clean blanket with a cut outfit on, the angel of the Lord announces that Jesus will be wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in an animal trough. This Sunday we will consider the angel’s birth announcement in verse 10-13 and see how this announcement is indeed good news of great joy for all the people.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Joy To The World (Antioch)

Joy to the world the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and heav'n and nature sing

Joy to the earth the Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods
Rocks hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat repeat the sounding joy

No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found
Far as far as the curse is found

He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders wonders of His love
