Read the sermon text: Hebrews 5:1-4

Read the sermon summary:  In the beginning, our God of love poured out his love into all of creation, with the apex being mankind. He walked with us in the garden, yet we spurned his love and chose darkness. Adam and Eve needed cleansing, and so do we. There is a gap between us and God, and it is for this reason God gave the priesthood and sacrificial system. This sermon will cover 3 main points: 1) The holiness of God which necessitates cleansing, 2) Key takeaways from the OT priesthood which serve to deepen our understanding of Christ and sin, and 3) All other things are but a shadow, while Christ is the fullness of reality. He is the great high priest!

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Nothing But The Blood (Plainfield)
What can wash away my sin
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

Chorus
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

For my pardon this I see
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
For my cleansing this my plea
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

Nothing can for sin atone
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Naught of good that I have done
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

This is all my hope and peace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
This is all my righteousness
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
