Read the sermon text: Exodus 5:1-14:30

Read the sermon summary: In our passage for Sunday, the words of Pharaoh set the stage for the events to follow. Pharaoh says, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and moreover, I will not let Israel go.” The Lord promises Moses that he will indeed “redeem” his people with “an outstretched arm.” And sure enough, we see the arm of the Lord in the signs and wonders. Pharaoh and his magicians are no match for God’s power. Of particular note is the repetition of Pharaoh’s hard heart and the purpose in the signs and wonders, “But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.” For the final plague, the Lord institutes the Passover as a memorial of how he passed over those who applied blood from a lamb to their doorposts. As the Lord leads the people out of Egypt it is said, “Thus the Lord saved Israel that day.” Putting all these ideas together, it becomes clear that more is in mind than simply delivering Israel from slavery. The Lord desires his people to be with him and for his name, Yahweh, to be proclaimed among all nations.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

The Lion And The Lamb

He's coming on the clouds

Kings and kingdoms will bow down

And every chain will break

As broken hearts declare His praise

For who can stop the Lord Almighty

Chorus

Our God is the Lion

The Lion of Judah

He's roaring with power

And fighting our battles

And every knee will bow before Him

Our God is the Lamb

The Lamb that was slain

For the sins of the world

His blood breaks the chains

And every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb

Every knee will bow before Him

So open up the gates

Make way before the King of kings

The God who comes to save

Is here to set the captives free

For who can stop the Lord Almighty

Who can stop the Lord Almighty

Who can stop the Lord (Almighty)
