Read the sermon text: Luke 1:67-80

Read the sermon summary: A new age has dawned with the coming of Christ and yet we often have a hard time believing it, or living in light of the true Kingdom. When the angel Gabriel told Zechariah the good news, he also had difficulty believing. Because of his unbelief, Zechariah was mute until his son, John, was born. In our passage for this Sunday, we will consider Zechariah’s Spirit-filled song of praise and prophecy. It’s difficult to understate the universal significance of what Zechariah proclaims. In the coming of Christ, God has turned the world upside-down. The Lord has redeemed his people through the Davidic King, Jesus, according to his promises of old. As we approach the celebration of Christmas, let us walk in the light of the new Kingdom Jesus has brought down.
