Read the sermon text: Hebrews 6:13-20
Read the sermon summary: What is the basis of your Christian hope? What anchors your soul to remain steadfast in your faith in Christ? In our passage from last week, the author encouraged believers to press on toward maturity in Christ, gave a stern warning about the danger of falling away, and comforted the believers by acknowledging their service to the Lord. In our passage for this Sunday, we see that the author continues with this word of encouragement by pointing to the faithfulness of God to keep his promises. In the larger structure of our text, this passage serves as a transition to the author taking up once again the theme of Christ as our High Priest after the order of Melchizedek.
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
The Solid Rock
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus' name
Chorus
On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In ev'ry high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
His oath His covenant His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay
When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne
