Read the sermon text: Acts 2:22-41

Read the sermon summary: In the beginning of the book of Acts, we see that as the disciples of Jesus gathered together they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in different languages. In response to the accusation that they were drunk, Peter stands up to preach. In his sermon, Peter gives a theological explanation and defense of what was happening. Although he attributes what is happening to the Holy Spirit, he begins with the story of Jesus, that is his death and resurrection. Peter shows how all that happened to Jesus was according to God’s plan and what had been laid forth in Scripture beforehand. We will consider this passage for Easter Sunday, paying special attention to the results of Jesus’s death and resurrection seen in verses 33-41. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: What is Peter attempting to do by quoting Psalm 16? What results of Jesus’s resurrection can you identify in this passage?

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Christ is Risen

Amazing grace how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

For I once was lost but now I'm found

Was blind but now I see

Hallelujah Christ is risen from the grave

Hallelujah Christ is risen from the grave

The prodigal is welcomed home

The sinner now a saint

For the God who died came back to life

And everything has changed

Hallelujah Christ is risen from the grave

Hallelujah Christ is risen from the grave

O death where is your sting

O fear where is your power

The mighty King of kings has disarmed you

Delivered and redeemed eternal life is ours

O praise His name forever

Chorus

Hallelujah Christ is risen from the grave

Hallelujah Christ is risen from the grave

And all throughout eternity

Our song will be the same

Hallelujah Christ is risen from the grave

And on the day You call me in

To heaven's sweet embrace

I'll see Your scars Your open arms

The beauty of Your face

Through tears of joy

I'll lift my voice in everlasting praise

Hallelujah Christ is risen from the grave
