Read the sermon text: Hebrews 10:1-18

Read the sermon summary: In our passage for this Sunday, the author of Hebrews contrasts the work of Christ with the work of the priests in the Old Testament. After this passage, he will begin making applications of the truths he preached in the first ten chapters. The emphasis in this passage is that Christ fulfilled the will of God where the Old Testament laws and sacrifices and priests could not. Christ offered up himself once and for all to “perfect for all time those who are being sanctified.” This indicates that we who come to him in faith have been changed in such a way that makes a relationship of love and peace with God possible. More than that, he has given us this relationship! In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: What contrasts do you see in the text? What words or ideas are repeated in the text? What does the author of Hebrews want to accomplish by quoting Psalm 40?

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Firm Foundation (He Won't)

Christ is my firm foundation

The rock on which I stand

When everything around me is shaken

I've never been more glad

That I put my faith in Jesus

'Cause He's never let me down

He's faithful through generations

So why would He fail now

I've still got joy in chaos

I've got peace that makes no sense

So I won't be going under

I'm not held by my own strength

'Cause I've built my life on Jesus

He's never let me down

He's faithful in every season

So why would He fail now

Chorus

He won't He won't

He won't fail

He won't fail (no)

Rain came and wind blew

But my house was built on You

I'm safe with You

I'm going to make it through

Yeah I'm going to make it through

'Cause I'm standing strong on You

Yeah I'm going to make it through

'Cause my house is built on You

He won't He won't

He won't fail

He won't fail no He won't
