Read the sermon text: Genesis 10:5, 20, 31-32; 12:1-3; 22:17-18; 49:8-10
Read the sermon summary: Having finished our sermon series on Romans, this Sunday we will begin a series through Exodus. To understand the book of Exodus, we need a few different tools of interpretation from those we used for Romans. This week’s sermon will describe those tools and set the proper context for the book of Exodus by considering the first part of what is called the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible). Moses provides a universal context in Genesis 1–11 before focusing the reader’s attention on the seed of Abraham, the one in whom all the nations of the earth will find blessing and salvation! The seed of Abraham is a Lion-King who conquers his enemies, enacts justice and righteousness, and imparts obedience to his people.
