Read the sermon text: Romans 8:18-30

Read the sermon summary: In our passage for this Sunday, Paul first encourages the believers by magnifying the glory which is to be revealed. This future glory is incomparably greater than our present sufferings. Then Paul gives believers promises to encourage them in the midst of their waiting and suffering. We see that 1) The Spirit intercedes for us, and 2) ultimately all things are working for our good. The basis, or ground, of this promise is God’s faithful work of salvation for his people. Believers can be assured that all things are working for their good because God not only chooses, but also calls, justifies, and glorifies his people. We see, then, that the God who draws people to himself, sovereignly brings them all the way home. There is not one point in the lives of God’s children in which he is absent or not sovereign. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: Using the text, what is this future glory of which Paul speaks? To whom do these promises apply? What is the logic of the sentence in verse 30? What are the tenses of the verbs?
