Read the sermon text: Luke 17:20-37
Read the sermon summary: It is first century Judea, and the Jews have long awaited the promised Messiah to usher in the Kingdom of God. In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus is introduced preaching the good news of the Kingdom of God accompanied by miracles. Questions arise around this teacher. Who is he? A resurrected prophet? The expected Messiah? By the time Luke’s account reaches this week’s text, it has shown that Jesus is indeed the Messiah, but questions remain. When will the Kingdom come? When will the Son of Man be revealed? In Luke 17:20-37, Luke records Jesus’ words addressing these questions. The Kingdom of God is not coming in an expected way, and the Son of man will be revealed later after he has suffered. What is more, this day of the Messiah’s revealing will also be a day of separation and judgment. So then, where will the day of the Son of Man find us, and how shall we live until then?
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
The Lion And The Lamb
He's coming on the clouds
Kings and kingdoms will bow down
And every chain will break
As broken hearts declare His praise
For who can stop the Lord Almighty
Chorus
Our God is the Lion
The Lion of Judah
He's roaring with power
And fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before Him
Our God is the Lamb
The Lamb that was slain
For the sins of the world
His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb
Every knee will bow before Him
So open up the gates
Make way before the King of kings
The God who comes to save
Is here to set the captives free
For who can stop the Lord Almighty
Who can stop the Lord Almighty
Who can stop the Lord (Almighty)
