Read the sermon text: Luke 2:22-38
Read the sermon summary: This Sunday we will conclude our brief series through the songs in the Gospel of Luke. In our passage, we see the unique person and situation of Simeon, a man who had received revelation from God that he wouldn’t die until he had seen the Lord’s Christ. Simeon’s song as he takes Jesus into his arms is a song of praise to God for fulfilling his promise to him personally, as well as to all of his people. Note that Simeon “sees” Jesus in person, but that he sees with spiritual eyes as well. In Jesus, Simeon sees the salvation of the Lord that will be for all people. Note also the contrast between Simeon’s peace and the turmoil that Jesus will bring to Israel. Even though Jesus is the Lord’s Christ, he will be a “sign that is opposed,” and there will be pain even for Mary.
Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:
'Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus (Trust In Jesus)
'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to take Him at His word
Just to rest upon His promise
Just to know thus saith the Lord
Chorus
Jesus Jesus how I trust Him
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er
Jesus Jesus precious Jesus
O for grace to trust Him more
O how sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to trust His cleansing blood
Just in simple faith to plunge me
'Neath the healing cleansing flood
Yes 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus
Just from sin and self to cease
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest and joy and peace
I'm so glad I learned to trust Thee
Precious Jesus Savior Friend
And I know that Thou art with me
Wilt be with me to the end
