Read the sermon text: Hebrews 3:1-6
Read the sermon summary: At the end of our passage from last week we see that Jesus has become a merciful and faithful high priest through his incarnation, suffering, and death. In chapter 3, the author calls the reader to “consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.” Jesus is not only superior to angels, he is also superior to Moses. Moses was a faithful servant. Jesus is a faithful son. The rest of chapter 3 (verses 7-19) consists of a warning drawn from the unfaithful and unbelieving example of the Israelites. The author confronts his readers to “take care” and “exhort one another,” so that they won’t fall into the same unbelief as the Israelites. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: How is Moses described? What commands does the author give to keep Christians from falling away? What is emphasized for the reader?
