Read the sermon text: Romans 10:14-21
Read the sermon summary: How will people come to trust in Jesus if they’ve never heard him speak? Paul’s implied answer is, “they won’t.” In this passage, Paul reasons through the necessary steps for someone to come to faith in Jesus. God sends a preacher. Someone preaches. Through that preaching, people hear the voice of Jesus. They believe, and then call on him to be saved. Of course, in Romans 10, Paul is speaking specifically of Israel and their failure to believe. In this passage, Paul is arguing that Israel, has indeed heard the voice of Jesus through his revelation and have rejected him. Therefore, the Scripture is fulfilled in bringing Jews and Gentiles into the family of God through their rejection. We see that this passage is a vindication, once again, of the faithfulness of God to keep his promises.
