Read the sermon text: Romans 11:1-36
Read the sermon summary: Has God rejected Israel, his chosen people? “By no means!” Paul says. How we answer this question is critical to our faith. After all, if Israel, God’s Old Covenant people, cannot trust his promises, then how can we, his new convent people, trust him? Paul demonstrates that God’s hardening of Israel is neither total nor final. It is not total, because there has always been a remnant of Israel being saved. This was true even during the great apostasy of Elijah’s day, and it continues to be true today. And it is not final, because there is coming a day in the future where God will lift the blinders from the eyes of Israel, and so many will come to faith in Christ that it will seem as if the whole nation of Israel is getting a saved. Can we trust God to deliver on His promises, even when his plans and purposes are inconceivable to us? Yes, Paul says, we can. The question is, do we?
